The Department

The University Children’s Hospital is part of the University Hospitals of Bordeaux. This is the referral hospital for the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine which is the largest French region and comprises about 6 million inhabitants. The Children’s Hospital includes 225 beds resulting in 30,000 hospital stays, 15,000 surgical interventions, and 60,000 outpatient clinic visits per year. The Pediatric Nephrology unit is part of a Nephrology and Endocrinology Division of 16 in-patient hospital beds and 4 day-care hospital beds. Our physicians and staff are able to diagnose, treat and care for children with all forms of kidney disease, and provide all modalities of renal replacement therapy. Our unit is also among the three French reference centers for rare kidney diseases. Finally, a high standard pediatric Clinical Investigation Center (CIC) with a staff of 18 clinical monitors and project coordinators assists and supports over 145 studies in all fields of pediatrics and can serve as a platform for academic and industrial studies within the ESCAPE network.
