The Departments

The Pediatric Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplant Unit is one of the nation’s largest, most experienced and innovative facilities dedicated to caring for children with kidney diseases. Our Unit provides a full range of services for the evaluation and management of infants, children, and adolescents with congenital and acquired kidney diseases. The unit also provides different techniques for renal replacement therapy including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and hemofiltration/hemo-diafiltration. Moreover, the Pediatric Nephrology and Dialysis Unit of Milan has long-lasting experience in kidney transplantation in children. The unit is part of the Italian network for Pediatric Nephrology, which involves more than 30 centers across Italy and serves all children with kidney disease in Italy. The Pediatric Nephrology of Milan has been a member of the ESCAPE network since the beginning and is the PREDICT Trial coordinating centre. 

The Translational Laboratory of Pediatric Nephro-urology studies the key mechanisms involved in kidney diseases, starting from the pediatric age. These conditions can compromise the kidney function, requiring treatments such as dialysis and transplant in the most serious cases. Through the translational research, the lab seeks to better understand these pathologies and develop new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies whose goal is to improve the health of patients from childhood to adulthood.
