Uwe Querfeld

Uwe Querfeld is Senior Professor of Pediatrics at the Charité Berlin. He received his clinical training in Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of the University of Heidelberg. He worked as a Clinical Fellow in Pediatric Nephrology at UCLA and as a Research Fellow at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles from 1984-1988. During the 1990’s he was Associate Professor at the University Children’s Hospital in Cologne, and from 1999 until 2016 Director of the Department of Pediatric Nephrology at the Charité. During this time, he was editor of the Guidelines for Pediatric Nephrology of the German Society of Pediatrics, and Head of a research group at the Charité Center for Cardiovascular Research.

Dr. Querfeld has conducted clinical and experimental research in the field of pediatric kidney diseases for over 30 years, with a focus on cardiovascular comorbidity in CKD. Together with Franz Schaefer, he is the co-initiator of the 4C study. His primary current research interests include mechanisms of arterial remodeling, endothelial dysfunction and microvascular disease in CKD. 

Dr. Querfeld is a member of numerous national and international medical societies and has authored over 250 publications in scientific journals and 23 book chapters. He received the Golden Kidney award as Congress President of the European Society for Pediatric Nephrology at the World Congress for Nephrology in 2003. He continues to work as network coordinator, scientific advisor, mentor and doctorate supervisor.
