Giulia Bassanese

Giulia Bassanese is a paediatrician at the nephrology department of the University Hospital Heidelberg, with a strong focus on rare kidney diseases. Her clinical and academic path has taken her through leading pediatric hospitals in Italy, the UK, and Switzerland, shaping her expertise in nephrology and translational research.

Since 2019, she has been actively involved in ERKNet as a project manager, contributing to multiple initiatives including the development of ERKReg, the European Rare Kidney Disease Registry. She currently leads the CompCure cohort study, which investigates disease progression in C3G and MPGN and aims to improve access to clinical trials for affected children. Giulia also coordinates the esCapeKD project, dedicated to collecting clinical data and biomaterials from children with chronic kidney disease to support biomarker discovery and risk stratification.
