Florian Buerger

Dr. Florian Buerger is a clinician-scientist at the University Children’s Hospital and Center for Kidney Health (HCKH) in Hamburg, Germany. His clinical and research focus lies on monogenic and immune-mediated glomerular diseases, with a particular interest in podocytopathies. After completing a research fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where he worked on genetic kidney disorders in the Hildebrandt Lab, he continues to explore the molecular mechanisms underlying glomerular injury and kidney dysfunction.

At UKE, he leads translational projects integrating genetic diagnostics, functional studies, and patient-based research to improve precision medicine in rare kidney diseases. Dr. Buerger is actively involved in ERKNet and ESCAPE-NET, fostering European collaboration in the field of hereditary and immune-mediated renal disorders.
