The Department

The Medical University of Gdańsk and its University Medical Centre are enrolled as full-members in the ERKNet network. The experts involved in both ERKNet and ESCAPE networks include pediatric nephrologists (Department Pediatrics, Nephrology and Hypertension, group of Aleksandra Żurowska) and clinical geneticists (Clinical Genetics Unit, group of Beata S. Lipska-Ziętkiewicz).

Beata S. Lipska-Ziętkiewicz's group is involved in research into genetic basis of renal diseases, steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome in particular. She is the genetic coordinator of the PodoNet consortium and Molecular Diagnostics Task Force member at ERKNet. Her current research projects include 1) expanding the phenotypic and genotypic characteristics of SRNS patients 2) identification of putative founder effects and distribution of particular mutations among various ethnicities 3) evaluation of the genomic burden in renal diseases.
